Last year, potatoes, including fresh and processed, were traded internationally for a total of 13.5 billion euros. The Netherlands is a major player in this trade, especially in the export of seed potatoes and starch potatoes. The country also has a large harvest of consumption potatoes, despite a drought, making it the second largest in the past decade. Belgium is a significant importer of Dutch potatoes, mainly for industrial use. The Netherlands exported 1.6 million tons of ware potatoes last season, with Belgium being the largest customer. The majority of consumption potatoes is used by the processing industry.
