A set of data released by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries on the same day shows that as of the 20th of this month, South Korea's exports of seaweed this year have increased by 13.2% year-on-year, reaching a historic high of 1.015 billion U.S. dollars. By destination, exports to the United States increased by 15.3% year-on-year, reaching 220 million U.S. dollars; exports to Japan increased by 13.8%, reaching 210 million U.S. dollars; exports to China increased dramatically by 36.6%, reaching 100 million U.S. dollars; Thailand (88 million U.S. dollars) and Russia (85 million U.S. dollars) also entered the top five.
According to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the competitive quality of South Korean seaweed has further improved, and the increase in sales to major overseas markets has driven the increase in seaweed exports. (End)
