Spain's winter tomato production is projected to remain stable at 1.27 million tonnes from the previous year, with a similar surface area of 14,175 hectares. In contrast, the summer tomato production has seen a significant decrease of 21% from the previous year, totaling 358,513 tonnes. Despite the summer campaign's decline, there has been a notable increase in household tomato consumption in Spain, rising by 9.5% to 265 million kilos from January to June 2024, compared to the same period in the previous year. This information was shared by the Spanish representation in the tomato subgroup of the Group of Experts of the European Commission's Fruit and Vegetable Market Observatory.
