Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, will defend the country's fishing interests at the upcoming EU Fisheries Council, arguing for increased quotas in the Atlantic and no cuts in the Mediterranean. The government will present alternative measures to limit fishing day reductions and revise proposals for the Atlantic. Spain also plans to appeal two Mediterranean measures to the EU Court of Justice. In agriculture, Spain is the main recipient of corn from Ukraine despite price hikes, and Planas has stressed the need for clear commission signals to farmers regarding support and reasonable supply prices. The approval of regulations for the Common Agrarian Policy strategy plan is expected in the coming weeks.
