Spanish fruit and vegetable exports have shrunk

In 2023, Spain exported 11.3 million tons of fruit and vegetables, 6% less than in 2022. However, according to data from the Department of Customs and Excise, this value increased by 6% to EUR 16.855 billion. Imports increased by 7% in volume and 19% in value. Vegetable exports decreased by 3% compared to 2022 and amounted to 5.2 million tons. Peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and cabbage saw significant declines. 710,780 tons of peppers (-11%), 706,760 tons of lettuce (-1%), 667,546 tons of cucumbers (-4%), 558,514 tons of tomatoes (-11%) and 469,804 tons of cabbage (-6%) were exported . The value of vegetable exports increased by 11% to EUR 7.883 billion. EU countries absorbed 83% of Spain's fruit and vegetable exports in 2023, a total of 9.4 million tonnes.
