Brazilian exports of specialty coffee to the United States suffered a sharp decline in August, following the adoption of a 50% tariff by the Donald Trump administration. According to the Council of Brazilian Coffee Exporters (Cecafé), the country shipped 21,679 bags in the month. The volume represents a drop of 79.5% compared to August 2024 and 69.6% compared to July of this year. Until August, the United States led the ranking of destinations for these coffees in 2025. However, due to the tariffs, the country fell to the sixth position, behind the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Sweden. The president of the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA), Carmem Lucia Chaves de Brito, warns that if the high tariff remains, Americans may lose their lead in the year-to-date total.
