Statistics Canada has updated its crop harvest estimates for 2024/25, showing a significant increase in wheat production by 6.1% to 34.96 million tonnes, despite a decrease in the forecasts for canola, soybeans, corn, and barley. The rise in wheat production is attributed to an increase in durum wheat area and a higher yield, while spring wheat acreage has decreased but yield has improved. However, canola production forecasts have been reduced due to adverse weather conditions in key growing regions, leading to lower yields and production in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.
