Haenam-gun, a county in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, is pioneering subtropical agriculture, including pineapple cultivation, in response to climate change. The county has successfully grown pineapples and plans to distribute them to local farms for pilot cultivation next year. This initiative aims to compete with the vast amount of imported pineapples by leveraging the superior taste and safety of domestically grown fruits. Since 2014, Haenam-gun has been experimenting with various subtropical crops, covering 125 hectares across 180 farmhouses. This undertaking is part of a broader effort to adapt to climate change and bolster agricultural competitiveness.
