Mozambique's sugar industry is set to rebound, with production anticipated to increase by 10% in the 2024-25 agricultural year, rising from 1.6 million tons to 1.9 million tons. This recovery comes following setbacks due to floods, including the temporary shutdown of the Maragra sugar mill. Despite these challenges, the industry has remained resilient, ensuring a steady supply of sugar at affordable prices. The surge in production will satisfy domestic demand and enhance export volumes, benefiting the economy and the 18,000 jobs tied to the sector. In addition, the agricultural sector in Xinavane district predicts a substantial maize harvest, expecting to exceed three million tons, further supporting food security and economic growth.
