The Department of Agriculture has announced Sultan Kudarat province as free from avian influenza, marking a significant milestone after the region was hit by outbreaks of the H5N1 strain from March 2022 to February 2023. This declaration by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. follows over 90 days of rigorous cleaning, disinfection, and surveillance, all of which showed no presence of the virus. The province now meets the World Organization for Animal Health's standards for being considered bird flu-free, allowing for the free movement of birds and poultry products to resume.
