After eight years of negotiations, Japan has approved the import of Taiwan's diverse red dragon fruits, including red-fleshed varieties. The first shipment has been dispatched from Taiwan, with the fruit expected to be sold in Japanese supermarkets. Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture is hopeful that the quality of its dragon fruit will surpass Vietnam's, the main competitor, and expects the market share in Japan to exceed 30% in the coming years. The ministry is focusing on maintaining the quality of fruit during export and establishing a stable link between Taiwan and Japan for long-term sales. The first shipment of 18,000 metric tons of Taiwan's pineapples to Japan is also noteworthy, highlighting the growing agricultural trade between the two countries.
