Since March 1, China has banned the import of Taiwanese pineapples, leading to a significant drop in exports and a severe impact on the Taiwanese pineapple industry. In the first half of the year, Taiwan's pineapple exports totaled 26,547 tons, a 35% decrease from the previous year, with the mainland's imports falling by 90.2%. This decline has been offset by increased imports from Japan, becoming the largest buyer, and Hong Kong. Despite efforts to diversify markets and mitigate the impact, only a small fraction of Taiwan's pineapples have found new homes outside of China, highlighting the severe consequences of the embargo.
