Technical assessment indicates targets to face the climate

Climate change is already evidently altering the production conditions in the Brazilian countryside. According to agricultural engineer Kleber Santos, information from international and national organizations confirms that extreme events have caused increasing damages to agriculture. Data from Adaptabrasil show losses of R$ 260 billion over the last decade, with R$ 57.4 billion in 2022 alone due to drought. These impacts affect productivity, accelerate the occurrence of pests and diseases, expand degraded areas, and compromise food security. Santos highlights that this scenario has driven public policies such as the Climate Plan, currently being developed to guide adaptation and mitigation actions until 2050.
