Tequila exports have seen a significant increase in the last two years, with the export value rising from $2,442 million in 2020 to $3,317 million in 2021. This growth is attributed to both increased volumes and higher prices. The main destinations for tequila include the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Australia, Spain, Latvia, and Japan. The Tequila Regulatory Council has restricted the production of the agave tequilana weber blue variety to specific states in Jalisco, Michoacán, Tamaulipas, Nayarit, and Guanajuato.
