Spain: The Basque Government Management Plan encourages the expansion of wolves and abandons extensive livestock farming

Last Wednesday, the Official Gazette of the Basque Country (BOPV) published the Resolution by which the wolf management plan in the Autonomous Community is submitted for public information. The Basque agricultural and livestock unions EHNE and ENBA consider that this plan once again abandons extensive livestock farming, avoiding addressing the underlying problem and establishing structural measures to support this sector, the ultimate consequences of which put at risk both the entire livestock and cheese sector, based on latxa sheep, cattle, horses and goats, as well as the habitats of mountain pastures, which European regulations order to preserve and promote. It is shocking that, after numerous meetings with the previous government teams and the contributions made by the entities of the primary sector, these have not been taken into account, the organizations lament.
