Spain: The Canary Islands will allocate €128,620 to compensate for losses in olive groves

Olimerca.- The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, has explained that his department will allocate 128,620 euros to compensate for the losses suffered in the olive groves as a result of the drought. This amount will benefit a total of 47 farmers, who can benefit from investment aid from the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and from agro-industrial transformation. During his speech, Quintero explained that the Canary Islands “has faced a prolonged and severe drought, which has generated significant economic losses in agricultural activity.” According to the councillor, “this phenomenon has had a special impact on strategic crops such as potatoes, grapes, olives, fodder crops, sweet potatoes and temperate climate fruit trees, products that are not only key to the local economy, but are also an essential part of food security and the cultural tradition of the archipelago.” ...
