The cherimoya campaign has commenced in Andalusia, Spain, especially on the Costa Tropical, with an aim to duplicate last year's success and target an estimated production of 45,000 tonnes. As the leading producer and marketer of cherimoya globally, Spain is witnessing an annual production growth of up to 15% and a surge in EU exports, which have risen by 20% in the last five years, accounting for 45% of the national production. Despite challenges such as staff shortages and fluctuating weather conditions, the sector remains optimistic due to increasing demand and profitability. The majority of the cultivation, over 90%, is concentrated in the Fino de Jete variety across the municipalities of Almuñécar, Motril, Salobreña, and Jete, with 3,041 hectares dedicated to the crop, showing stable growth over the past five years.
