The Animal and Plant Quarantine Service of Korea (APQA) has approved the import of fresh Vietnamese pomelo, making it the third Vietnamese fresh fruit to enter the Korean market. This comes as the US has also opened its market to Vietnamese coconuts. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association is optimistic about the potential of exporting fresh coconut and frozen durian to China, which could generate up to $500 million in revenue annually. Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports have seen a significant increase of 23.4% in the first seven months of 2024, reaching over $3.8 billion. However, the industry faces challenges such as the need to meet quality standards, trade protectionism, and sustainable development trends. Vietnam has received 57 warnings from the EU for agricultural products, food, and aquatic products exported to the market, with dragon fruit, pepper, okra, and durian being the most inspected products.
