Naci Kaplan, President of the Poultry Meat Industrialists' and Breeders' Association (BESD-BIR) in Turkey, reported a 5% increase in the country's white meat production in 2021, reaching 2.3 million tons, with 98% being chicken and 2% turkey. Exports surged by 17.3% to 632 thousand tons, generating $894 million in revenue, with Iraq being the primary market. The sector, which contributes to employment for about 3 million people and has an annual turnover of $5.5 billion, is expected to grow by 12% in 2022. Kaplan emphasized the need for the development of new markets, mentioning the UK, the Philippines, India, Egypt, and Japan, and expressed the sector's willingness to improve environmental practices.
