The first shipment of export guinea pig, branded as Mr. Cuy, from Azuay, Ecuador has reached the United States. The venture, a result of a 665-day effort by entrepreneurs Galo Tenezaca, Omar Bohojorque, and Dayana Sanmartín, involved an investment of around $160,000, including the construction of a slaughtering and packaging plant that meets national and international standards. The vacuum-packed guinea pigs, priced up to $40 per unit, will be primarily distributed in New York.
