The National Food Commission (Conal) of Argentina has approved the inclusion of the fruit of the butia yatay palm tree into the Argentine Food Code (CAA), following efforts by the Food Control and Bromatology Institute (ICAB) of Entre Ríos province. The approval was made in collaboration with various national and provincial authorities, and after a public consultation. The yatay fruit, rich in vitamin C and potassium, is commonly used in food preparations and its inclusion will allow for the registration of by-products like liquors and sweets. This move is anticipated to boost social inclusion and economic development in the region.
