Macadamia nuts in Myanmar are mainly planted in Shan State, followed by Kachin State, Chin State, and Mandalay Region, with a total planting area of over 12,000 acres. Specifically, macadamia nuts planted in the Ywangan area of Shan State are harvested twice a year, in spring and autumn.
The announcement indicates that the macadamia nuts allowed for import from Myanmar are fruits from macadamia nuts grown in Myanmar, processed through peeling, drying, and selection within Myanmar, and are shelled nuts intended for human consumption.
Myanmar macadamia nuts imported into China must not contain the following quarantine pests of concern to China: Cryptolestes ferrugineus, Lasioderma serricorne, Tribulus terrestris, and Cynodon dactylon. The macadamia nuts should be dehydrated using ovens or drying machines, must not contain live insects, and must not be adulterated or mixed with other impurities. During processing, defective nuts, moldy nuts, shells, and weed seeds should be removed.
Myanmar should inspect the production, processing, and storage units of macadamia nuts for export to China according to the requirements for registration of overseas food production enterprises in China, and recommend qualified enterprises to China. China will register the qualified enterprises. The raw materials for the exported macadamia nuts should come from planting enterprises confirmed by Myanmar to meet the relevant plant quarantine and food safety requirements and registered accordingly.
The macadamia nuts should be packaged in clean, hygienic, new materials that meet food safety and plant quarantine requirements, and should be prevented from spilling during transportation. Before shipment, Myanmar should inspect the transportation tools for the macadamia nuts. The transportation tools must meet health and quarantine requirements, and must not contain quarantine pests or other restricted quarantine objects, such as weed seeds, live insects, plant residues, soil, and other foreign impurities.
