The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico is promoting the Milpa System Intercalated in Fruit Trees (MIAF) to enhance the income of small farmers and protect soil from water erosion. This intercropping agroforestry system, which includes fruit trees, corn, and beans, is being implemented in states like Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. The MIAF system is a multi-objective technology that aims to increase net income, provide family employment, and increase carbon sequestration. It also promotes the efficient use of light, water, and nutrients, leading to higher crop production and quality. The system has been adopted in over 50 modules and has been supported by various organizations, including the Sembrando Vida Program.
