Argentina: The national government defended the accession to an international seed agreement

The national government defended its position of adhering to UPOV 91, the agreement for seed genetic technology that is included in the Omnibus Law. This initiative of the ruling party generated divisions within the Liaison Table, with three entities that rejected the idea and one that expressed its position in favor. The Secretary of Bioeconomy, Fernando Vilella, recognized that adhering to this measure “means access to the best genetic technology available for all producers.” Through a statement, the ministry indicated that this agreement will allow the Argentine producer to access “the best genetic technology in the world.” Among other benefits, they explained that this regulation will increase the productivity and nutrition of crops, their exportable balances, and their resilience in the face of growing climate volatility.
