In 2023, global artichoke producers, including Peru, saw harvest declines due to adverse weather conditions, impacting international trade. Despite these challenges, Peru managed to export 47,817 tons for $138 million, marking an 18% drop in volume and 15% in value from the previous year. However, Egypt and Turkey's artichoke production surged, helping to meet demand and keep prices relatively stable for Peruvian artichokes, which averaged $2.8 per kilogram, a 4% increase. Looking ahead to 2024, a recovery is anticipated with better climate conditions, leading to a predicted 22% increase in Peruvian exports by volume and a 18% rise in value. The United States and Europe, key markets, faced their own production issues, resulting in increased reliance on imports and price fluctuations. Europe's demand is projected to grow by 3% in 2024, promising challenges for Peruvian artichoke in a crowded market.
