Iraq is set to import up to 200 thousand tons of wheat per month from Russia, totaling an estimated 2.5 million tons of grain per agricultural season, including 2 million tons of wheat. This move aims to reduce Iraq's dependence on flour imports by increasing domestic wheat processing. Last season, Iraq imported 6.5 million tons of grain, including 2.75 million tons of wheat. A new duty on flour imports, starting at 10% on September 1, 2023, will rise to 25% by January 1, 2025, and remain until June 30, 2025.
