The poultry industry in Poland is experiencing falling broiler prices due to increased production and imports from Ukraine, along with persistently high production costs. Poland lost its bird flu-free status in October 2023 and has had over 1 million poultry slaughtered due to HPAI outbreaks. HPAI outbreaks have been reported in 21 European Union countries, with most outbreaks in France, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany, and outbreaks have also been reported in mammals. Importing poultry meat and eggs from Ukraine is a challenge for the Polish industry, leading to calls for the introduction of import thresholds and protective measures. Additionally, an assessment of the effects of banning cage farming in the EU shows an impact on the net trade balance and a decrease in exports of pork and eggs.
