The Tra Vinh province in Vietnam is experiencing a drop in coconut prices due to export restrictions and competitive pricing from other countries. Despite this, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is encouraging farmers to continue cultivating coconuts due to their suitability for the region's soil and climate. The province has a strategy to upgrade the coconut value chain from 2022-2025, focusing on VietGAP and organic criteria, and aims to increase coconut productivity to 16 tons/ha by 2025. The province is also planning to develop 550 hectares of specialty wax coconuts and renovate 3,000 hectares of aging coconut gardens with high-yield, high-quality varieties. The plan also includes creating linked production and processing areas to increase income by 10-15% and create jobs for rural workers.
