Georgia is set to continue its program to subsidize the purchase of non-standard apples for processing companies, with terms unchanged from last year. The Rural Development Agency will reimburse companies 0.10 lari per kilogram if they buy non-standard apples from farmers at a price of at least 0.25 lari per kilogram, until December 15, 2024. A special working group will oversee the implementation of the program, and companies must register electronically to receive subsidies. Last year, the program led to the processing of about 21.8 thousand tons of apples, generating income of 6.8 million lari for farmers and subsidizing 2.2 million lari worth of purchases. The Ministry of Agriculture anticipates a non-standard apple harvest of about 50 thousand tons this year.
