Russia has imposed a temporary ban on the export of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose to maintain the stability of its domestic food market until August 31, 2024. However, the ban does not apply to supplies to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, with specific quantity limits. Exceptions are also made for exports to certain countries including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Despite the ban, Russian sugar, known for being one of the cheapest in the world, has seen its geographical supply reach more countries including Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, North Korea, and Senegal.
