The article highlights the high cost of fish in Russia, leading the population to seek alternative protein sources such as poultry and pork. The All-Russian Association of Fisheries Industry (VARPE) has identified this issue and is working to promote more affordable marine fish species to the public. The organization is also working towards reducing the gap between the selling and retail prices by subsidizing fish transportation costs from the Far East to central Russia.
