In Santiago del Estero, as in many other regions of the country, the sunflower is continuously spreading. Nationally, the cultivation has shown a notable expansion in recent years, and for this campaign, it is expected that the planted area will increase by 10% with a production that could reach 5,750,000 tons. According to data from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, the preliminary estimate of the Argentine sunflower area for 2025/26 is 2.6 million hectares, a figure 18.2% higher than the previous cycle and 30% above the average of the last five years. The cultivation has been registering strong growth in areas that were not traditionally sunflower-growing, given the previous negative outlook for corn due to pests.
