In the first month after Brexit, imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from EU countries decreased by 20%, while imports from non-EU countries grew by 10%. The share of imports from EU countries fell from 55% to 47%. Imports from all goods from EU countries fell almost 30% compared to December 2020, and total goods exports also shrank by 20%. Imports from Spain, the UK's most important supplier, were less than 10% of the annual total, and imports from other EU suppliers such as France, Belgium, and Poland also decreased. Imports from outside the EU were largely dominated by bananas, making up one third of the total fruit and vegetable import.
