Over 117.5 kg of black caviar from endangered Siberian sturgeon was confiscated at the Hrebenne border by the Customs and Tax Service in Poland. The Ukrainian resident was attempting to transport nearly 300 jars and cans of caviar across the border without the necessary CITES permits, despite the caviar being from a legal breeding source. The potential value of the caviar on the Polish market is over PLN 200,000. The transportation of endangered species across borders is generally prohibited, and the violation can result in up to five years of imprisonment.
