The Military Emergencies Unit (UME) has activated this Monday 117 personnel and 25 vehicles in the area where six wild boars infected with African swine fever (ASF) have been confirmed so far in the Collserola mountain range (Barcelona), on a day when the Government, Generalitat, and sector will meet in Madrid. This outbreak of ASF has led pig farms to reinforce their biosecurity, while the administrations have already established safety and surveillance perimeters. The Catalan Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food does not rule out the appearance of more wild boars dead from ASF, after confirming on Sunday that eight more wild boar carcasses were found in Cerdanyola del Vallès, which are pending analysis to determine the cause of their death. The UME will join the 250 Mossos d'Esquadra, rural agents, Barcelona urban guards, and local police who have already been mobilized by the Catalan Executive to curb the spread of this lethal virus for pigs.
