By Pedro Lima São Paulo, 12/17/2025 - The United States announced changes to tariffs applied to certain products from Switzerland, conditioning these alterations on the progress of negotiations for a broader trade agreement between the parties. According to a notice to be published tomorrow in the Federal Register, the official American journal, the modifications were adopted with the "expectation that the Fair, Balanced and Reciprocal Trade Agreement will be successfully negotiated by the first quarter of 2026". The document clarifies that if the agreement is not concluded by March 31, 2026, Washington "will review and reconsider these modifications, as appropriate". The signal indicates that the tariff adjustments are provisional and depend on the outcome of the negotiations provided for in the structure agreed upon in November of this year.
