In a historic milestone for Argentina's grain trade, a vessel named MV Shandong Fu Yi, flying the flag of Hong Kong, began loading at the port facilities of the Chinese company Cofco in the Greater Rosario to set sail for that Asian country, after completing its holds at the port of Quequén. What is novel is what it is carrying inside: 65,000 tons of Argentine wheat. China is the third global importer of the cereal, with around 10 million tons annually. And Argentina is usually among the top five global exporters of the cereal. Nevertheless, both ends of this thread had never been united before. The sanitary permits to do so were only signed at the beginning of 2024. Therefore, this first shipment constitutes a historic event for all those who in some way participated: the port, the ship, the producers, and the exporter Cofco.
