India has extended the duty-free import of yellow peas until June 30, a move that is set to benefit Ukrainian farmers by encouraging them to increase pea cultivation. As a result, over 120,000 hectares have already been sown in Ukraine as of April 7, with expectations for a boost in sown areas, harvests, and the domestic and export potential of Ukraine's leguminous crops. This decision comes at a time when there is a shortage of pea seeds in Ukraine, leading farmers to sow commercial peas. Despite nearly all of last year's pea harvest being sold and low stocks remaining, India's significant market for Ukrainian peas, coupled with its own weather-related challenges in pulse production, presents a promising opportunity for Ukrainian exports.
