Mexico is celebrating its third annual National Cocoa and Chocolate Day on September 2 to boost the local cocoa industry and its producers. The country, which has 4% of the world's cocoa plants, produces a significant portion of its cocoa in Tabasco, Chiapas, and Guerrero. In 2020, these regions planted 59,655.16 hectares, resulting in a production of 29,428.77 tons. This event not only aims to promote cocoa farmers and the chocolate industry but also to highlight the health benefits of cocoa and combat misconceptions about its nutritional value. The Production for Wellbeing (PpB) program is supporting over 13,000 producers in Chiapas, Tabasco, Oaxaca, and Guerrero, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is providing technical assistance to enhance production standards.
