In the first four months of 2021, the selling price of Hungarian wines at domestic processors experienced a significant increase of about 7.2%, with white wines seeing a larger price hike of 10.3% compared to red wines and rosé. Despite this, wines with a protected designation of origin, especially those from Tokaj, saw the highest price increases. However, the average domestic sales price of Hungarian wines, excluding sparkling wine and champagne, remained low.
The export price of Hungarian wines decreased by 2.4% in the first two months of 2022, despite a 16% increase in the export price of Tokaj wines. Wine exports increased by nearly 13% to 169,000 hectoliters in volume but decreased by 23% in value to HUF 4 billion. Hungary's wine imports also increased by 9% in the same period, mostly consisting of bottled wines.
