The Government of the Region of Murcia has launched a program for capturing and tagging wild boar specimens using GPS tracking collars in various points of the Region of Murcia. The action will be carried out in collaboration with the Institute for Research in Hunting Resources (IREC), a national reference center in the study of hunting species and wildlife. The initiative was authorized by the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Climate Action, which is part of the Ministry of Environment, Universities, Research, and the Mar Menor, and aims to improve scientific knowledge about the movements of the wild boar (Sus scrofa), especially in areas near pig farms and in areas with high population density, in order to reinforce health surveillance, prevent the spread of diseases, and promote the sustainable management of the species.
