Three under investigation for the fraudulent use of the PDO 'Pimentón de la Vera'

The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard has investigated three individuals for their alleged involvement in crimes against industrial property, after detecting the fraudulent use of the PDO 'Pimentón de la Vera' in products derived from dairy industries. The investigations began last July, after conducting a search on the internet, through social media and websites of dairy industries and their derivatives, and verifying that some of them offered cheeses whose label, and the reference description of the product, included the inscription 'Pimentón de la Vera'. Thus, the agents detected the unauthorized use of the PDO 'Pimentón de la Vera' in various dairy industries; specifically, they identified goat cheeses whose outer coating was impregnated with paprika, an ingredient traditionally used in cheese for its preservation and aesthetics, as well as to confer a characteristic flavor.
