The blue crab has invaded the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian coasts, causing significant damage to the seafood industry. The presence of the crab has halved the production of clams, mussels, and oysters, and has impacted the fry of sea bass and sea bream. Fishermen and cooperatives are asking for support from the EU Commission to help with the financial burden of disposal and finding ways to mitigate the effects of the crab on native species.
