The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Egypt has announced the commencement of citrus exports for the 2024/2025 season, marking the start of the new export season. Citrus is the leading fruit crop in Egypt, with exports reaching 2.28 million tons this year. The country is planning to increase its fresh export volumes to approximately 10 million tons, expanding agricultural areas through national projects. The European Union has reduced the required additional tests on Egyptian citrus fruits for pesticide residues from 30% to 20%, and there are plans to remove citrus and other crops from the list of goods subject to these tests, which could boost Egyptian agricultural exports to European markets. The Ministry is also focusing on improving plant and animal health and food safety by enhancing the capabilities of its reference laboratories.
