Tönnies, a German slaughterhouse group, has announced significant price increases for poultry and beef due to supply shortages and labor and raw material shortages. The loss of Ukraine as a supplier of chicken fillet has led to a shortage of 3,000 tons of the product weekly, and the beef market is already stretched, with prices hitting a record 4.50 euros per kilo. Additionally, the cost of labor, transportation, and other inputs like electricity, gas, oil, fat, mustard, breadcrumbs, and packaging is rising, leading to higher production costs. In response, Tönnies and other meat processing companies are imposing price surcharges on retailers.
