Federal Minister Cem Özdemir has announced breakthroughs in agricultural trade between Germany and China, including the end of a decades-long ban on German beef over BSE concerns and the initiation of an agreement for exporting German apples to China, a first in terms of establishing common export rules for these products. These achievements follow years of negotiations and represent significant progress in lifting longstanding trade barriers. Furthermore, Özdemir is pushing for access to the Chinese market for German pork, currently blocked due to the African swine fever outbreak in Germany in 2020. His discussions with Chinese officials have also focused on the need for transforming food systems and enhancing sustainability in the agricultural cooperation between Germany and China.
