New Zealand's seed exports in 2022 saw a 9% decrease, totaling $221 million, due to increasing regulation concerns within the industry. Despite the challenges of weather, production costs, and shipping reliability, the industry has shown resilience with the Netherlands, Australia, the United States, China, and Germany as the top five export markets. Over 80% of New Zealand's seed production is located in the Canterbury region. The South Island is currently in its 2023 harvest, experiencing favorable conditions, while the North Island has faced challenges due to excessive rainfall, impacting maize planting and causing concerns about quality and yield.
