In the first nine months of 2020, Russia saw a significant increase in potato exports, with a 36% rise to 254.8 thousand tons and a 38.7% increase in revenue compared to the same period last year. The main importers of seed potatoes were Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Turkmenistan, Belarus, while table potatoes found demand in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Moldova, and Tajikistan. Despite this increase, Russia's potato imports exceeded exports, with a decline in import volume but still high demand, particularly in the off-season from March to June. To reach self-sufficiency, Russia aims to produce 7.575 million tons of potatoes by 2025 and increase storage capacities. The Potato Union emphasizes the potential for high-value product exports and advocates for state support to process and market these products effectively, both domestically and internationally.
