The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) predicts a 20% increase in tuna exports, reaching 456.8 million USD in the first half of 2024. This follows a 22% rise in the first five months of the year. The United States and European Union are the largest markets, accounting for 37% and 22% of total exports, respectively. Vietnam's tuna industry has seen significant growth, becoming the world's 5th largest tuna exporter in 2023 and exporting over 1 billion USD worth of tuna in 2022. However, the industry faces challenges such as raw material shortages and technical issues with the VNPT electronic monitoring system on fishing vessels. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has been called upon to address these issues.
