The Turkey Beekeepers Center Union has reported a significant decrease in honey production in 2021 compared to the previous year, largely due to the impact of climate change and forest fires. These disasters have resulted in the loss of bee colonies and hives, severely affecting honey production, especially pine and high plateau honey. Union President Ziya Şahin has urged for the postponement of beekeepers' debts to banks and has suggested focusing on cultural plants like lavender to support honey production. He also cautioned consumers about the rise in fake and low-quality honey and bee products on the market, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and stressed the health benefits of propolis in combating the virus.
